NBRS+PARTNERS are currently converting a section of the old library at Macquarie Uni. The space is titled MUSE: Macquarie University Spatial Experience. The space includes student collaborative study spaces, spaces between formal academic spaces and purely social spaces.
NBRS+PARTNERS’ design philosophy, established by James Ward, emphasises the importance of connection & choice. To create a space ideal for the students, the students must be able to choose. Imposing a prescriptive space, no matter how expensive or cutting edge in design, will not yield the best results for collaborative interaction. Offering adaptability and choice allows a sense of ownership over the space. The focus is to provide a space in which students have control over their environment, making it a fun space to be in.
The space is also designed to allow instant connection – to wifi, to the university, between students and to the outside world. The space is not only fun, but efficient – A place to get things done.
We have named our allocated space on Level 1 ‘Bassline’. One exciting opportunity offered by the ground floor is the connection to the outside, which has been emphasised by various elements of the design. The NBRS+PARTNERS Interior team, lead by Hung-Ying Gill, has constructed a layering of spaces to provide a diverse range of spaces to suit a variety of activities.
The layering of spaces includes:
- Private Secure Spaces/ Singular Pods
- Time for Two
- Project Time
- Team spaces
- Come Together
- Down Time/Unwind
MUSE should be completed in time for students’ use in Semester 1, 2014.
